Project Background
Energetic development in Macedonia imposes significant influence
on the national economic growth, the protection of the environment
as well as the living conditions of the entire populace. The use
of fossil fuels, above all in energetic and transportation, causes
even greater pollution of the atmosphere with the greenhouse gases.
On the other hand, for many households in Macedonia, the monthly
expenses for energy pose the highest strand on their family budgets
following food, and this due to the lack of information on how to
save on energy. The municipalities can no longer rely on the government’s
ministries to pay for the local expenses so now they are facing
a new and expensive responsibility of taking good care of how they
use electricity. Macedonia is limited in commercial energetic resources
and is therefore inevitable that in future it will have to depend
more and more on imported energy. Precautions for energetic efficiency
could result in lowering pollution of the environment, extending
use of national resources of energy and prolonging the need for
investing in a new infrastructure (using fossil fuels). Our current
experiences gained through the realization of various projects on
energy efficiency (e.g. isolation of constructions with silicon
tapes, replacement of current with energy-efficient light bulbs,
etc.) and on promotion of renewable sources of energy (e.g. setting
of solar systems, production of solar collectors on a do-it-yourself
bases, etc.) have been promising and lead us to consider the possibility
of extending and expanding these activities.
