The
emission of harmful gases and particulates from automobiles is the
primary cause for air pollution in central city areas.
Breathing these harmful gases can increase one’s risk of suffering
from such health conditions as respiratory tract infections, cancer,
asthma and other illnesses. These gases also are linked to global
warming and climate change.
An
increasing dependence on private vehicles leads to more traffic congestion,
a decline in average driving speeds and an increase in the time necessary
to travel around the city.
Inflexible
opening hours of most business, the poor condition of autobus transportation
and the frequent use of automobiles further contribute to traffic
congestion.
From
this point, the first step necessary is to inform the citizens of
the consequences we face with the increased reliance on automobiles.
We need to identify other transportation possibilities.
This
information will encourage the citizens to carefully consider what
type of transportation to use, and to encourage the use of those which
least contribute to the degradation of their standard of living.
Raise
public awareness about the consequences of transportation and its
impact on the environment, economy and human health.Promote public
transport and alternative modes of transportation, as a more sustainable
means of transport¨ Initiate a change in perception about the use
of private vehicles

-
The creation of a media campaign to inform the public about the consequences
of pollution caused by the increasing volume of traffic.

zones and prices, bus schedule, etc.)
